Chaitra was born and brought up in Kozikode. She has completed schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kozikode. Her father works with Jawahar Lal Nehru Port, Mumbai at a senior managerial position. Her mother is an executive with the Animal Husbandry department of the Government of Kerala.

Chaitra had first cleared UPSC in 2011 and was allotted Indian Railway and Traffic Service. It took three more years for her to achieve what she wanted. Her All India Rank of 111 in UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2015 ensured that she got IPS with Home Cadre.

Chaitra is currently posted as SP of Women’s Cell in Thiruvanthapuram. She was also holding additional post of DCP. However, when she raided the CPM office, the Government has removed her from the post of DCP. She was punished for doing what was necessary and what was required to be done to keep the morale of Kerala Police intact.
