Sonu Punjaban is one of the most notorious women gangsters of India. She is primarily known for running high profile sex racket, but she has also involved in many serious crimes. She has been arrested many times, and got bail. In fact, few films in Bollywood have been made taking a cue from her life, including superhit Fukrey where Richa Chadha donned the role of Sonu Punjban.



Sonu was born and brought up in Haryana in a humble family. She was not a born criminal. She was married to a smuggler named Vijay who was shot dead by Haryana Police in an encounter. At that time, Sonu was pregnant. Soon after the delivery of her baby, her father died. Now, Sonu was all alone in this world. She was not that much educated. The only thing she could thought about was prostitution to keep up with the growing needs of her baby.

This is how Sonu, whose real name is Geeta Arora, became a prostitute.
Sonu came to Delhi and started to run the racket from there. She came in contact with two brothers – Hemant and Sonu – who were pimps. She married both of them. Incidently, both of these brothers were shot dead in police encounters. 

So, Sonu Punjaban married thrice and all of her three husbands were killed in police encounter.
