Sonia Singh, IPS: Profile, Husband, Age and Family



Sonia Singh is a 2003 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Nagaland Cadre. She is currently on inter cadre deputation to Uttar Pradesh. She is currently posted as SSP of Kanpur. The dwindling state of law and order in Kanpur had compelled Yogi Adityanath Government to bring Sonia Singh who holds a DIP rank as SSP. Obviously, she is working at a position which is lower than the rank she holds. It also shows the trust Yogi Government is showing on her to control law order in Kanpur.

Sonia Singh was born and brought up in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She has always been a bright student. From her childhood, it was her dream to crack Civil Services and become an IAS officer. She has done M. A and PG (PM) and then cracked UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2002. Unfortunately, her rank was not high enough to let her become an IAS. She got the second choice of services – IPS with Nagaland cadre.

It was little bit disappointing for Sonia Singh. First she couldn’t get IAS and then she got Nagaland Cadre. However, she took it as a challenge and her performance in Nagaland for five years in adverse geographical circumstances is spectacular. She is known for controlling separatist sentiments in areas wherever she worked. After five years in Nagaland, she was allowed for inter cadre deputation and come to her home state UP. Here also, she has worked tremendously in all responsibility given to her.
It is quite unfortunate thing to note that media has reported about her making inspection in jeans and t-shirt. People should see her performance. At the age of 42, she is working round the clock to ensure safety to the people.

Sonia Singh is married to an IPS officer of UP Cadre. It was because of her marriage that she got inter cadre deputation easily.
