Misa Bharti is a
RJD Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar. More than being an MP or better a politician,
she is known for being the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav. In politics she might
be a controversial figure. However, in real life, she is a poignant lady with
soft heart. Many still believe that she is the real heir of the political
empire of Lalu Prasad. But, following the footsteps of patriarchal society, she
was relegated and Tejaswi Yadav was made the heir. She has another brother
named Tej Pratap Yadav who is currently the Health Minister of Bihar.
Misa had first
foray into the world of politics in 2014 Lok Sabha Election. Lalu Yadav had
given her ticket from Patliputra Constituency. Ram Gopal Yadav, who was once
considered as Hanuman of Lalu, revolted and joined BJP. Riding on the Modi
wave, Ram Gopal Yadav defeated Misa Bharti easily. In 2016, Lalu Prasad
selected her along with Ram Jethmalani.
Profile of Misa Bharti
Misa Bharti was
born during emergency. At that time, her father Lalu Prasad Yadav was a student
leader and was jailed under Manitenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). That
is why she got her name Misa.
Misa Bharti did
schooling from Patna. Later, she took admission in the MGM Medical College,
Jamshedpur. She used TISCO quota for admission. This admission had become a
sort of controversy at that time. She was also a topper of her batch. However,
she didn’t go for higher education or for practicing medical profession.
Husband of Misa Bharti
Misa Bharti is
married to Shailesh Kumar. They got married in 1999. At that time, Rabri Devi
was the Chief Minister of Bihar. Lalu family was unofficially first family of
the state and hence this marriage had attracted lots of attention. It had also
become controversial because of Sadhu Yadav. He had arm twisted Tata Show Rooms
to send all SUVs lying there for sell. Ratan Tata had to interfere and the
vehicles were returned on the very next day. That was a glimpse of Jungle Raj
in Bihar.
Misa Bharti and Land Deal
Misa Bharti name
has figured into a massive land scam. Times Now has run an investigative story
showing how Lalu used his political position to get lands for Misa. In fact,
she got 6 acres of land in the posh locality at a discount of 96% - she paid
Rs. 1. 64 Crores for a land which market rate is Rs. 100 Crores. The question
is why someone will sell land for such a throwaway price. Recently, Sushil
Kumar Modi of BJP had also alleged similar land deals in Bihar which was
executed in favor of Lalu’s sons.
A thorough
investigation is obviously required.
Children of Misa Bharti
Misa has three
children – one son and two daughters. Her two daughters are now grown up. They
are studying in New Delhi. Her son is a new born.
Misa had once
taken the little son to the Parliament. The baby needs the lap of his mother
and Misa is first a woman then a politician. That was an emotional moment for
many Parliamentarians when they saw Misa handling two jobs – a people’s
representative and a mother.
