Kamarunnisa Anwar: Profile, Husband and Family

Kamarunnisa Anwar who was widely regarded as a firebrand and progressive woman leader of Kerala has now been removed from IUML. She was the president of the Women’s Wing of the party and has been working really hard to garner support of women from all sections of society. She had recently made a controversial statement that BJP is rising and she would like to wish the party to keep growing in Kerala and outside and help people. She had also donated a token money of Rs. 2000 to the BJP. The male dominated regressive IUML couldn’t digest this fact that a leader of her party is openly praising the Hindutva group and hence issued the suspension order with immediate effort.

Kamarunnisa Anwar is always known for taking the cause of women in public. In 2016, she had openly criticized her own party for not fielding a single women candidate. That was a valid criticism seeing the level of literacy among Kerala Muslim women. Few months back, she was publicly humiliated in a party function when male leaders didn’t allow her to speak saying that a Muslim woman should not speak in a gathering of men. That was definitely ridiculous and regressive position held by a prominent Muslim party of India.

Kamarunnisa was also peeved because her party was not taking any stand on the issue of triple talaq. She has strong faith in the equality and wants to see a society where both male and female enjoy the same rights and privileges. It is said that her open praise and encouragement to the BJP was a protest against her party on the issue of triple talaq.

It should be noted that Ms. Anwar had clarified and expressed regret over her comments. However, the party feels it necessary to sack her to give a strong message.

Qamarunnisa Anwar was born in 1947. Her father, Abdul Haji, was a well-known doctor who had also become Deputy Director of Health Services. Her mother name was Fatima. She is married to Dr. Mohammed Anwar who is also a respected medical professional. The couple has two sons and two daughters.
