Draupadi Murmu was all set to become the President of India. However, the political mathematics of the BJP suits well with Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovind than that of Draupadi Murmu, Jharkhand Governor. There was no denying that she was the front runner for the coveted post.

At present she is the Governor of Jharkhand (the first woman Governor of Jharkhand).
It is interesting to see that a simple and down to Earth lady like Draupadi Murmu had overtaken stalwarts like L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Azim Premji and Thawar Chand Gahlot in the race for the prestigious post.



Profile of Draupadi Murmu

Draupadi was born on 20th June, 1958 in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. She is from Uparbeda Village of Kusum block. This village could see electricity and roads only after 2000. You can understand the condition of the village even after independence. 

Draupadi is the daughter of late Biranchi Narayan Tudu. Fortunately,her father was quite progressive and understood the importance of education. He ensured good education to all of his children, including daughters. Draupadi became an Assitant Professor after completing her education from Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubneshwar. She has also worked in the state irrigation department as a Junior Assistant. Her first entry into the world of politics happened in 1997, at the age of 39, when she became the Vice Chairman of Rairangpur. Later she became a BJP MLA from the same constituency. She was included in the BJP National Executive team and later made a minister in the Naveen Patnaik Government. She has won many accolades for her exemplary work as a public representative and minister. She was made the Governor of Jharkhand in 2015.

Husband and Family of Draupadi Murmu

Draupadi Murmu has lost a lot in her personal life. You need to see her personally to understand the pain she has gone through. Her husband Shyam Charan Murmu is no more. She had three children – two sons and one daughter. And, both of her sons died. She is now left with only one daughter who got married two months before she became the Governor of Jharkhand. She resides in the Governor House in Ranchi all alone.
