Kulbhushan
Sudhir Yadav is a retired Indian Navy officer who has been abducted by the
Pakistani Army and was sentenced to death. As per information available with
the Indian government, Kulbhushan was arrested/kidnapped on 3rd
March, 2016 from Iran. Pakistan says that he was arrested in Balochistan with
enough proof of him being involved in espionage and links with Balochistani
separatist group.
Irrespective of
what International Court of Justice orders, Kulbhushan Yadav is the focal point
of latest plunging of relationship between Indian and Pakistan. He has become a
prime catch for Pakistan to have some moral ground and show the world that Indians
are also involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan. The country was
desperately looking for someone since 2008 Mumbai Terror Attack.
There is enough
proof that Kulbhushan Jadhav was working in Chabahar, Iran. He had started his
own firm and had some contracts there. However, he had changed his name to
Hussein Mubarak Patel. This is the weakest point for India. Kulbhushan has
passport with a Muslim name and hence India is not denying that. However, the
family says that he had to change name to work in Iran. It is not possible for
a Hindu to work there and make money. Kulbhushan was just a businessman and was
trying to make quick money.
There is no sign
that Kulbhushan Jadhav has converted to Islam. He was using a Muslim name just
for his safety.
Pakistan has
denied India the Consular access as per Vienna Convention to Mr. Jadhav.
Consular access could have made India aware of everything. Pakistan reluctance for
this simply shows that the country is trying to hide something.
Caste of Kulbhushan Jadhav
There is no
denying that Kulbhushan has become a matter of hot discussion in India and
Pakistan. There are still lots to know about him. One thing which Indians are
trying to know about him is his caste. That he is from Maharashtra is known,
but what is his caste?
Kulbhushan
Jadhav is a Kunbi by caste. He belongs to the sub-caste Jadhav of Kunbi/Koli.
This caste is primarily found in Maharashtra and Gujarat. It is equivalent to
Kurmi of Bihar and UP. It is basically non-elite tillers of small farm lands.
In the Northern
India, many think that Kulbhushan is a Yadav. That is not true. He is a Kunbi.
Jadhav is
recognized as OBC in Maharashtra.
Some of the
famous Jadhavs are Sant Tukaram, Scindia dynasty of Gwalior, Cricketer Kedar
Jadhav and Minister Narendra Jadhav, among others.
