Niraj Kumar Bansod is
regarded as one of the most upright and hard working Indian Administrative
Service (IAS) officers of India. He is a 2008 batch IAS officer of Chhatisgarh
cadre. Basically, he belongs to Maharashtra, but had given Chhatisgarh as his
first choice in the cadre allocation in the Detailed Application Form of UPSC
just because of the fact that he was looking for challenges. And, his works in
the hot bed of Naxalite movement in Chhatisgarh, that is Sukma district, is an
example of his sheer determination to take on challenges head on.
Profile of Niraj Kumar Bansod
As mentioned above, Niraj
Kumar is from Maharashtra. He has been a bright student from his school days.
He completed B. E. with Production Engineering from Maharashtra. He got a job
with fat salary. However, he was not satisfied and decided to go to Delhi for
Civil Services preparation.
Niraj cracked UPSC Civil
Services Examination in 2007. His All
India Rank was 88. By caste, he is a dalit and in the SC category his rank was
also quite good. Naturally, he got his first preference of service – IAS – and even
got his first choice for state cadre during cadre allocation by the infamous
rooster system.
Niraj Kumar has done
splendid job as the CEO of Bilaspur Zila Panchayat. His deep understanding to
solve the problems of down trodden section of society made Raman Singh, the CM
of Chhatisgarh, to send him to Sukma in 20014 as District Collector.
As some of recent events
have shown – like ruthless killing of CRPF forces by inhuman naxalites – Sukma is
a place where no officer would want to go. But, Niraj has a love for
challenges. His performance in Sukma is amazing. He is channelizing all efforts
of the Government of India to bring back tribals in the mainstream. It is
because of the hard work of Niraj Kumar that led to shrinking of influence of
naxalite in this area. Niraj understands that children of this district are
completely unaware of their countries and democratic structure. Attacks on CRPF
forces are also a testimony of frustration that naxalites are feeling after
seeing that their grip on Sukma is weakening. They just don’t want state to
enrich the lives of tribals.
Family and Wife of Niraj Kumar Bansod
Niraj is married and living
in Sukma with his wife and children. His parents also stay there.
