Deepak Kumar, IPS: Profile, Family and Caste

Deepak Kumar is a 2005 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He is widely regarded as an upright police officer who always works to give the best policing experience to people of his area. He has recently been made the SSP of Lucknow. It should be noted that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath removed Manzil Saini and brought Deepak. Manzil is also an efficient officer, but Yogi wanted more and complete control of crimes in the capital of UP. In his opinion, Deepak Kumar fits best and hence he got the coveted post which comes with lots of responsibilities. 

Before becoming SSP, Lucknow, Deepak Kumar was SP of Ghaziabad and previously of Muzaffarnagar. He is credited with improving the public image of police even during the reign of Akhilesh Yadav.

Deepak Kumar was born on 16th April, 1979 in Ramdiri village of Begusarai, Bihar. This village is known for producing many IAS and IPS officers. It is a very large village and even villagers can’t count the number of Civil Servants belonging to their village. It is a Bhumihar dominated village. Needless to say, Deepak Kumar is also a Bhumihar by caste.

Deepak Kumar did schooling from his village and later took admission in Delhi University for Graduation. After completing B. A., he also did L. L. B. while preparing for Civil Services. He cracked UPSC Civil Services Examination in his second attempt and got his second career choice – IPS.

Deepak Kumar is married and currently residing in Lucknow with his wife and children. 

It will be interesting to see how Deepak Kumar justifies the trust shown on him by maverick CM Yogi Adityanath. Initial indications are positive and he is among few officers who is coming daily in office by 9 AM and give two hours daily to hear and dispose complains of general public.
